Video content is developing into longer clips such as "webisodes" or "mobisodes", which are brief episodes of video programmes designed for mobile devices.

Some 82% of internet users in Thailand watch and download video content through mobile phones.

The DAAT predicts total ad spending on online media will grow by 50% to 4.5 billion baht this year.

On-usa Lamliengpol, president of the Advertising Association of Thailand, said 3G service will encourage more creative campaigns.

Previously, creativity for online campaigns was limited by mobile signal speed.

The delay of mobile broadband hurt Thai advertising creativity the past three years, said the Gunn Report, an annual compilation of winners' lists from the most important advertising industry awards around the world.

Thai ad creativity was ranked 16th in the world from 45 regional, local and global competitions covering TV and cinema ads as well as print, digital and integrated work. This ranking was down from 13th in 2011. Thailand ranked eighth in 2007 and 2008 before dropping to 15th in 2009.

Ad sector hopeful of 3G burst

The advertising sector hopes the official launch of third-generation (3G) mobile service will cause online media spending to reach 4.5 billion baht this year and lead to the smoother creation of online campaigns.

"3G service has finally arrived, and we hope ad campaigns on mobile will be better and smoother," said Siwat Chawareewong, president of the Digital Advertising Association of Thailand (DAAT).

Video content created by brands and shared on online media is the new ad trend.

The digital format will generate more content through mobile devices such as pre- and mid-roll ads.
